What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar yoga promotes integration of body, mind, and spirit through the practice of traditional yoga postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama). Based on ancient yogic practices as interpreted by contemporary Yoga Master Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, Iyengar yoga places special emphasis on developing strength, endurance, balance and correct body alignment. Suitable for all ages and abilities, Iyengar yoga classes vary from gentle to vigorous and are aimed at developing students’ inner awareness.
Only Iyengar certified teachers may call themselves an “Iyengar Yoga Teacher” and are licensed to use the certification mark. Iyengar teachers are well trained and continually upgrade their skills through workshops and professional development to maintain their current level of certification.
Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers undergo a three to five year teacher training program which follows the rigorous international standards set by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar.
